(Las Vegas, NV) — A local Republican wants the top of a Las Vegas mountain named in honor of the nation’s 40th president.
Political communications consultant Chuck Muth is pushing to have the summit of Frenchman Mountain named after Ronald Reagan, whom he calls “the greatest president, certainly of our generation”.
The process started with a presentation to the Nevada State Board on Geographic Names, a group of about 15 representatives from various public agencies that was formed back in 1985.
If they approve Muth’s idea, it’s still not a done deal. It would then go to the U.S. Board on Geographic Names for final approval.
The “Review-Journal” says Democrat and Clark County Commissioner Chris Giunchigliani disagrees. She claims there is no “nexus” between Reagan and Nevada. If mountain peaks are to be named, locals should also be considered.
